A total of 156 participants attended an online leadership forum on Saturday organized by the Young Professionals Network (YPN) Brunei and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
The event was part of the YPN’s ‘Leadership Circle’ which serves as a platform to bring together thought leaders, people in leadership positions and leadership positions at all levels to collectively discuss ideas, frustrations and best practices in leadership.
The initiative welcomes thought leaders, people in leadership roles and young people eager to develop stronger leadership skills through constructive virtual discussion.
The mentor of the âManage Upâ session was the Administrative Officer, Level 1 in the Cabinet of Minister MSEJ Faiq Rani.
The session explored the elements to foster effective communication, collaboration, cooperation, partnership and understanding between people and leaders at different levels of authority, diversity of perspectives and skills.
It also aimed to develop and maintain a healthy and mutually beneficial relationship with superiors; build a win-win situation of productivity and a positive work environment; and to be more comfortable in conflict management.
The session saw discussions ranging from being in a leadership role to following a leader.
Participants raised a number of questions about ways to motivate; how to deal with conflicts and dilemmas as a leader; and how to effectively raise issues with a leader.
Discussions on the management of conflicting values ââand beliefs between leaders and followers, the management of intergenerational gaps in communication between leaders and followers, the role of the leader in breaking the glass ceiling to empower women; and ways to support niche industries such as sports, have also taken place.
