HEATHSVILLE—Quarterly joint meetings between the Northumberland Board of Supervisors and the school board were meant to forge better communication and cooperation. If the Wednesday, August 3 meeting is any indication, there is still work to be done to make it a reality.
Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Richard Haynie, opened the discussion not by addressing the planned subject of the meeting – the quarterly budget and matters previously submitted to the school division – but by asking Deputy County Administrator Drew Basye, from “reading a statement”. The statement was actually part of the minutes of the June 13 school board meeting where Gayle Sterrett made a motion that all communications between boards be by written correspondence only….
